How to Properly Brush Your Teeth

Oral Hygiene in Rocklin, CADid you know that poor oral hygiene is the main cause of dental problems? This section provides easy tips and steps to improve oral hygiene, from brushing your teeth properly to choosing the right mouthwash.

Brushing your teeth properly helps you attain healthy dental hygiene and smile beautifully.

Choosing the Right Toothbrush and Toothpaste:

Use toothbrushes with soft, slim bristles to reach the gum line and clean the teeth better. Hard bristles can harm the teeth and gums. The size of your toothbrush head should be large enough to penetrate your molar areas. Replace your toothbrush every 3-4 months. Also, consider a toothpaste with fluoride approved by dental experts.

Steps to Proper Brushing:

Starting with the outer surface of the upper left molars, hold your toothbrush sideways, slightly touching your gums. The brush head covers 2-3 teeth at a time. Move your brush back and forth in short and light strokes to prevent harming your teeth and gums. Make a circular motion for 10 seconds or approximately 20 strokes. Clean all the front surfaces, moving your brush clockwise from your left molars.

Next, use the same procedure in brushing the inside surfaces of your premolars and molars.

Afterward, set the tip of your brush on the back surface of your upper front teeth and move it in downward and upward strokes. Do the same with the back of your lower front teeth.

When done, brush the biting surfaces of your teeth to clean and remove food bits left in them.

Then, brush your tongue and cheeks in a very light motion and slow strokes for a fresher breath.

Rinse with water and spit out immediately to prevent swallowing. For a totally clean effect, gargle with mouthwash.

Remember to brush your teeth at least two times a day, one in the morning and another before sleeping at night. Avoid eating anything after brushing at night, as food may accumulate on the biting surfaces of your teeth.

You can set up an appointment with your dentist for a consultation and to learn more about caring for your teeth.
