Braces in Rocklin, CA

Misaligned or crooked teeth can lead to feelings of insecurity when smiling. Fortunately, there are effective solutions to enhance your smile and boost your confidence. One popular option is braces, which are designed to correct various orthodontic issues, including crowded, rotated, crooked, or gapped teeth. They can also address malocclusion, which is known as a misaligned bite.

At Agape Dental, we offer two options: traditional metal and clear braces. Whether you’re an adult or a teen, we ensure that everyone receives the high-quality care they deserve and completes their treatment with a beautiful smile.

Metal Braces

Braces in Rocklin, CA | Schedule A Free ConsultationTraditional metal braces are known for their durability, strength, and effectiveness. They have three main components: brackets, archwires, and rubber bands called ligatures. The brackets are small attachments that act as anchors for the archwire, while the archwire—a thin metal wire—connects the brackets and applies pressure to guide your teeth into the desired position over time. Ligatures are the elastic bands that securely hold the archwire within the brackets.

Clear Braces

Clear braces are an excellent alternative to traditional metal ones, especially for those who feel self-conscious about the bulky appearance of metal brackets. While they function similarly, there are some key differences.

The brackets and ligatures are tooth-colored, allowing them to blend more with your natural teeth. Clear braces are still visible but much less noticeable than traditional metal braces. You can also choose between clear ceramic or metal archwires, with many opting for the clear option to further reduce visibility. We also offer Invisalign®, a popular choice for those seeking the most discreet way to straighten their teeth.

While clear braces reduce visibility, they do have one minor drawback: they are more prone to staining. To minimize staining, avoid foods and drinks like coffee, tea, tomato sauce, and red wine.

Your Path to a Straighter Smile

Initial Consultation and Treatment Planning

During your free consultation, Dr. Mignon Mapanao will take the time to understand your needs. We pride ourselves on offering a thorough assessment, ensuring you never feel rushed and that you receive the high-quality care you deserve.

We’ll examine your teeth and jaws, take X-rays and digital impressions, and discuss treatment options. Before proceeding, we’ll address any underlying oral health concerns, such as cavities or gum disease. With our iTero Intraoral Scanner—a cutting-edge technology that captures every angle and nuance of your teeth for an incredibly accurate impression—Dr. Mapanao can create a precise treatment plan that is unique to you.

At this stage, Dr. Mapano will also provide an overview of the estimated costs, treatment timeline, and what to expect throughout the braces process.

Braces Placement

Before placing your braces, Dr. Mapanao will clean and condition the surface of your teeth for better adhesion. After cleaning, she will apply a primer liquid to prepare your teeth. This step is crucial because it prepares the enamel for the adhesive. Once primed, Dr. Mapanao will apply the adhesive to each tooth and then cement the metal brackets onto your teeth. Finally, the archwire is threaded through the brackets. Small rubber bands, known as ligatures, hold the wire in place. Finally, Dr. Mapanao will trim the excess archwire to ensure it does not irritate or rub against your gums and cheeks.

The entire process can take anywhere between one and two hours.

Post-Placement Care

After Dr. Mapanao places your braces, she will show you the correct way to brush and floss and discuss how you should care for your teeth. When brushing, you should use fluoride toothpaste and a soft bristle toothbrush. Soft brushes are important because they are gentler on your gums and are more effective at removing plaque and food particles around your braces. Dr. Mapanao will also guide you on effective flossing techniques with braces, as it can be more challenging. Tools like floss threaders, interdental brushes, and water flossers can make the process much easier.

Checkups and Adjustments

After three or four weeks, we will see you for your first regular checkup and make any necessary adjustments. Regular follow-up visits are essential for fine-tuning your treatment and monitoring progress. Treatment typically lasts one to three years, though the exact timeline depends on your specific situation and dental needs. Once completed, you’ll wear a retainer to help maintain your newly aligned smile.

We often recommend braces during adolescence, typically between the ages of 10 and 14, when the jawbone is still developing. However, braces are not just for children and teens—many adults also pursue orthodontic treatment. Thanks to advancements in dental technology, braces are accessible and effective for both teens and adults, so it’s never too late to work towards a straighter smile.

While you may experience some discomfort when wearing braces, it is usually minimal and manageable. Most patients find that the discomfort subsides within a few days as they adjust to their new braces. You may also experience some tenderness after we tighten your braces, but this is temporary.
